Infinite Dumplings
Infinite Dumplings is a window installation shaped by a year and a half of making gluten free dumplings together, an ongoing attempt to perfect a single recipe. That pursuit has no natural endpoint, and the work takes its title from the repetition at its centre: the same small form folded, tested and folded again. Fifty dumplings are evenly spaced against a coloured ground. Mirrors around the edges multiply them past the box into something closer to an endless supply, an image of abundance offered freely to anyone walking past. So much of what holds a friendship together is easily overlooked: the repeated, unglamorous rituals of cooking, eating and sharing space. By presenting the dumplings in a gallery window, we elevate the rituals that friendships are built on. We hope viewers might consider the friendships in their own lives, and the small, shared acts that sustain them.
